The artists all gathered at the song house on Friday evening where they had the chance to share supper and talk with Randal Keynes (Charles Darwin’s great great grandson) – since then they’ve been working on new songs as individuals or in groups of varying sizes, and these songs will be premiered at the Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury on Thursday March 19th.
There was a media afternoon at the song house today, where the press had chance to interview artists and thanks to the fantastic weather we had chance to take our formal photographs for the project and the forthcoming CD release.
While our photographer Carey was carefully positioning the artists for the pictures, I snuck in and took a couple of quick shots too – the picture above is from the lawn in front of the songhouse.

Darwin Song Project
During the day I heard a number of songs in progress that all sounded fantastic – it will be interesting to see how these develop over the next couple of days......

We were at the concert last night and were blown away.It was such a treat to feel part of an "evolving" process and get a taste of what the creative process is like. All the results were beautiful and we will be watching the TV next week, buying the CD and going to the concert again at the folk festival!
The Darwin Song Project will be broadcasted on Radio 4,time-11.am 27th March.30 min.prog.
Last night was fantastic. So beautiful. One of the most lovely concerts I've ever been to - thank you!
The concert was indeed a beautiful experience and. It felt like we were privileged to be attending a very special event. Well done Neil Pearson, Alan and Sandra Surtees and all the other organisers...and well done to the eight wonderful musicians and writers. To observe the cameraderie and dynamics onstage you'd have thought they'd been working together for many years. In fact most hadn't even met a week earlier....and the two hours of beautiful music heard during the concert had been written, arranged and rehearsed in the intervening days (and I gather final details for songs were still being honed even in the interval between the sets!). Congratulations (in stage order, L to R) to Krista, Rachel, Chris, Emily, Karine, Stu, Mark and Jez. A complete triumph.
